  • Welcome to the World, Baby Cockroaches!

Proud Madagascar Hissing Cockroach parents welcomed 40 new additions to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum family at 10:05 a.m. Monday morning. The 40 bundles of joy were born at home in their greenhouse tank at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum in Crown Heights. A representative for the couple was quoted as saying, β€œThe nymphs are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon.”

Junior Entomologist Hudson was in attendance for the birth, and he helped the family to name the new arrivals, calling the firstborn Monkeyface.

Monkeyface and each of his brothers and sisters weighed half an ounce at birth and each is half an inch long. The parents expect their soft white skin to harden to a nutty brown exoskeleton in a day or two. The nymphs will stay at home with their mother for six months before they are fully mature.

Mom and babies are healthy and resting at home. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to BCM.
